What we believe

God reveals himself in Jesus.
We confess that the Triune God has made himself known supremely in Jesus Christ, the incarnate Word, through the Spirit’s power to the glory of the Father.  We believe in one living and true God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. In Christ, God does not merely inform us about himself; he gives himself to be known as a human knows a human. We come to know the Father only through the Son, in the illuminating grace of the Spirit, by knowing Jesus.

God made us and saves us.
We believe God the Father, Creator of all that is, has not abandoned his creation. We believe rather than forsaking his creation to the chaos of sin, he enacted a redemptive purpose from the rebellion of Adam and Eve onward to bring all things into harmony in Christ. Adam and Eve’s rebellion has marred God’s purpose for creation, and God’s plan to be with His creation has gained a new purpose: to unite creation to Himself beyond its fallen state.

Jesus is God and the redeemer.
We confess Jesus Christ as very God and very Man, of the same essence as the Father and Spirit, who reconciles us in every way to the Father in his incarnation, obedience, death, resurrection, and ascension.  We believe Jesus Chris is the eternal Word made flesh. With God and as God before the incarnation, he became human without ceasing to be divine. In doing so, he brought God’s fullness into our fallen condition, redeeming our fallen condition from within God’s perfect union with humanity. Living in perfect obedience, Christ died for our sins, rose bodily, and now reigns as Lord. As our vicarious representative, he responds to the Father on our behalf and draws us into communion with him. In Christ, the face of God turns toward us in grace—in his face we behold the very being of God.

The Spirit helps and changes us.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, who unites us to Christ, sanctifies us, and brings us into communion with God the Father.  The Spirit is of the same essence as the Father and the Son. We believe the Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son. He testifies to Christ, making Jesus present and indwelling the Church—all believers, uniting us to Christ and enabling our participation in his resurrected life. The Spirit is not mere power but the personal presence of God, sanctifying, renewing, and drawing creation into the Father’s will.

The Bible tells God’s truth.
We confess the Holy Scriptures as the Holy Spirit-inspired, infallible witness to Jesus Christ, through whom he brings clarity in the hearts of the elect.  We believe in the Holy Scripture, not as a static relic, but as the living witness to Jesus Christ. Inspired by the Spirit, the Bible remains the faithful medium through which God addresses us. It is to be read in the same Spirit by which it was given, drawing us into the truth it proclaims—Jesus Christ, risen and ascended.

Sin broke us—Jesus heals us.
We confess that humanity, though made in God’s image, is fallen and alienated by sin. We believe humanity fell into profound alienation and chaos through sin. This is not just weakness but bondage, entwined with creation’s disorder. Yet it is this estranged humanity Christ assumed to heal and restore. As Christ is fully God, he is also fully created man, assuring creation that God will not turn from his fallen creation but rescue it because to reject creation is to reject Jesus, who is now part of that creation.

Jesus died and rose for us.
We confess that Jesus bore our sin and judgment in his flesh, died, rose again in power, and brings us into new life and adoption by grace. We believe Jesus Christ bore our sin, alienation, bondage, and judgment in his humanity on the cross. His death was once-for-all atonement, reconciling us to God. Through his resurrection and ascension, we are drawn into new life, justified by grace, and adopted as children of the Father. This is the Triune God’s work—accomplished for us, imparted to us by the Spirit.

Church helps us follow Jesus.
We believe the Church is the visible body of Christ, through which the Spirit calls, justifies, and sanctifies his people by Word and sacrament. Faith is not a human achievement, but a gift awakened by grace. Through Word and sacrament, we receive the Gospel, are awakened to our salvation in Christ, and brought into the life of his kingdom.

We wait and live for Jesus.
We confess that the Christian life is one of union with Christ, sharing in his obedience, sanctification, worship, mission, and hoping in the fullness of his Reign. We believe living by faith means sharing in Christ’s own faithfulness to the Father and living as though Jesus is our ascended Lord right now. Though we see the kingdom dimly now, we hope for its full unveiling. Until then, we are called to worship, bear witness, and reflect his reign with every step of our lives. Until his reign comes in full, we seek Jesus through Word and Sacrament, prayer, and fellowship. We are encountered by Christ and are shaped by his Spirit for the world through these usual means.
