Pastor Russell Smith

Welcome to Covenant-First Presbyterian's website; we're glad you came for a visit. Our congregation has a deep heritage here in Cincinnati, stretching all the way back to 1790. We've been blessed with notable pastors, such as James Kemper, whose log cabin home is a historic attraction in Cincinnati, and Lyman Beecher, the father of author Harriet Beecher Stowe. Our sanctuary boasts of fine woodcarving from the 19th century master carver Henry Fry.

Each Sunday we enjoy the majestic sounds of our Austin organ, and we hear the tolling of our tower bell, cast by the Paul Revere foundry in Boston. Our sanctuary breathes with history. But the real story of Covenant-First is her people.

This tenacious group held on as a presence in inner city Cincinnati while other churches fled to the suburbs. Expressing their commitment to Bible-based preaching, traditional worship, and the fellowship of the saints, a handful of hardy souls continued the ministry of Covenant-First in the face of adversity. God honored the perseverance of those saints by bringing more people who had energetic ideas for ministry. Now, Covenant-First is a congregation of nearly 200 people who express their Christian faith through heartfelt worship, study of God's word, mission service, enjoyment of rich fellowship, and telling the good news of God's love for us in Jesus Christ.

I hope you'll take the opportunity to browse our website. Explore the list of ministries we offer; listen to our online sermon archives; enjoy the resources we have available. However, my great hope is that you'll pay us a visit and get to know our people, for that is where you'll truly see Christ at work.
